Queen

The most powerful piece: rook and bishop combined

Learned in School · 4th Grade

Attack pattern

The queen attacks in all eight directions: the four straight lines of a rook and the four diagonals of a bishop. It is the most versatile piece in the game.

Self-lighting

The queen lights its own square plus every square along its eight rays (4 orthogonal + 4 diagonal), stopping at blockers.

World interactions

Different world mechanics change how the queen behaves:

Tips

The queen is often the most constrained piece in a puzzle, not the most flexible. Because it covers so many squares, there are fewer placements where it does not accidentally block or overlap with other pieces. Start by figuring out where the queen needs to go.
