The pawn attacks one square diagonally forward (upper-left and upper-right). It is the most restricted piece in the game.
The pawn lights its own square plus two diagonal-forward squares. That is it. Three squares total at best.

The pawn's weakness is its strength in disguise. Because it covers so few squares, its correct placement is often highly constrained. If a target can only be reached by a pawn's diagonal, that pawn's position is locked. Solve the pawn first, then work outward.
